Week 3 PLE Post
I'm actually grateful for the opportunity to learn more about copyright laws-- I wasn't very familiar with copyright, so I had a lot to learn. :) In my mind citations were primarily for written work-- when paraphrasing or quoting from a different source. Making sure you site your sources in say a research paper is very similar to abiding by copyright laws and providing citations for various media you may acquire. (At least it helps me to think about it this way). I like the definition or use of copyright that was given in the tutorials: "the primary use of copyright is to promote the progress of science and useful arts." I appreciate the fair use policy that has exceptions for educational purposes . . . I think this emphasizes a greater value for education. I think copyright can be a bit unsteady, especially with all its different limitations. It seems like you really need to know your copyright "stuff" in order to avoid "accidental violations."

Week 3: WiKi Modifications
I've uploaded a picture of me onto my Wiki. I think we were told to pick a photo that looked professional-- hopefully mine is professional. It's not a silly picture, and I don't see anything unprofessional about it; however, I've determined that I will make changes to my modifications if that's needed. I also found a video of an address that Pres. Hinckley gave at BYU Idaho for the Hinckley Building dedication. I really like this address, and I thought it would be a wonderful reminder to put it right on my Wiki. I do want to embed a google calendar, but I think I'm going to make a new page to include this. In the tutorial it said something about a content page. What would you put on your content page? I've another question for thought, but it would be nice to have some feedback . . . Why are we placing these modifications on our Wiki? I thought that these Wikis were supposed to be a type of portfolio. Are these extra modifications a way to personalize our Wikis?

Week 2: Learning Discovery!
I think during this second week of class there was a whole lot of good information shared and taught. The triangle that aids in creating and having dynamic learning experiences was intriguing. It was a new concept for me, and at first I did not really understand the connection between Role, Knowledge, and Experience. I thought that this threesome was an odd combination to use to explain learning. After class though I started to understand how each part of the triangle greatly affect each other. For instance, from experience I know that my role plays a definite part in how much I learn, and my experiences in the classroom or during day to day living enhance the knowledge I'm collecting. I learn a whole lot more if my role is positive and if I am more willing to experience, use, and explore. Experiences help to fill your knowledge piggy bank, and understanding your role keeps that piggy bank secure and well cared for.
Week 2 PLE Post
I'm somewhat nervous about the assignment for this second week-- making the tokbox email. I've never done one before, but I think it's awesome that there's a way to send a video email. I did go to tokbox.com to explore the site and find directions to make the email, and I was so happy to see that the only direction was to press here to record. (At least I hope that was the only direction). I think the only "hard" part will be the talking I'll have to do and finding a webcam. That's not so bad . . . .
As for some activities a teacher could do using tokbox, I had an idea after reading something on the website. It said, "send a birthday greeting." This may not be academic other than teaching the children how to use technology, but I thought it would be a fun activity for students to send "happy birthday" messages to the "birthday student." The teacher could have students use the classroom computers if they do not have access to a computer at home. I think it would be awfully special for the birthday student to get little happy birthday greetings from their classmates. I think it would also increase unity in the classroom and promote a friendly atmosphere.
The teacher could use tokbox as a way for students to send responses to questions in class or for oral reports. I think it would be particularly useful for students who may have difficulties in writing (LD or other disability). Tokbox could be a great accommodation, especially for written homework assignments. (It may be more fun too-- I think it's usually exciting and sometimes super fun to do teach/do activities in different ways or by using various methods).

Week1 PLE Post
I will be honest, I'm not very familiar with technology (at least that's how I feel). However, it is very possible that I know more than I give myself credit for. The lingo or language used with technology is pretty foreign to me. My experience mainly includes using Microsoft word, Excel, and PowerPoint. I am fairly competent with these programs. As for newer technologies, I'm afraid I am not very up to date-- this is the first time I've made a blog! I definitely would like to increase my understanding of technology, and feel more confident in my abilities to use it. I'm hopeful that after this class I will have much more to say about my technology background.
