Week 5 PLE Post
I think Google Earth is amazing! It's really incredible that technology can takes us to places where we may never be able to go in the world-- like Antarctica. I like the fly option where you can type in a location, and Google earth will fly you there. It feels like you're flying over the world and coming in for a landing when you reach your destination. I think there's also an option where you can explore the ocean, the moon, and there's even a Google Mars! It would be a wonderful experience to take my students to different places in the world. They may not actually be there, but Google Earth provides images and videos that can enhance the experience. I feel Google Earth can also do marvels for student's imaginations. I would still want to include tactile and other non-digital methods in my teaching, such as tasting different foods from different parts of the world, or playing a game that is part of a different culture. I'm certain you can use Google Earth for any subject you may be teaching. I got very excited about the idea of visiting the settings in books that students may be reading individually or a book you may be reading as a class. This technology could produce some amazing reports and projects. Being able to explore new places excites students, and I think this is a very good tool to use to promote an enthusiasm for learning.
