Week 6 PLE Post
A virtual field trip is a great technology to use in he classroom. It allows students the opportunity to travel to different places in the world, while still sitting at their desks. I also think it's pretty exciting to watch the earth move on Google Earth as you're flying to another part of the world. The field trip gives students an experience that utilizes their sight senses. If all senses were used during this field trip, that would create an amazing experience. For instance, different types of souvenirs or objects from a certain part of the world could be brought in so students can feel them. Playing music for students to hear can help them imagine that they have left the classroom. You can bring in different types of smells-- it might be fun to bring in some fishy smells so that students can experience a fish market in some marine environment. I hear that in Poland and Sweden they've got some interesting fish smells. To add onto smell you can bring in samples of foods from a particular part of the world. (You might want to avoid the fish--I don't think students would be too enthused about trying fish heads or sour herring). You might have some takers with cricket lollipops or chocolate covered ants. I think in order to explore different cultures, you can teach students games that are played around the world. I think this would be a super fun activity-- I know if I were the teacher, I would have a lot of fun with this activity.
